REDD Uganda

REDD+ is an acronym for the “Reducing of Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation and the role of conservation of biodiversity, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks” in developing countries. Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) recognized REDD+ as one of the mechanisms that would contribute to mitigation of climate change effects. Deforestation and forest Degradation are the second leading cause of global warming, responsible for about 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions, which makes the loss and depletion of forests a major issue for climate change.
